Two Worlds

Two Worlds by Gretchen Kelsey

It’s happening. Whether you like it, whether you want it, whether you are ready for it; universal connectivity is happening.

Today, we live in two worlds. One that is physical and one that is metaphysical. The physical world does not need any definition, but the metaphysical world will be defined as the world behind the screen.
In our physical world, we can express ourselves through the movement of our entire body; through touch, through grasp, and again, through movement. It is interesting to note that the largest thing that separates the physical world from the metaphysical is movement and physical touch.

In both worlds, we can cry, laugh, visit with old friends, get lost in our imagination, and even try new things. In both worlds, we can truly live a beautifully fulfilled life, filled with connectivity.

But what does connectivity truly mean? What does it mean to be connected with others? In the simplest of terms, it means you do not feel alone in the life you lead.

And the metaphysical world we have created is one that we can step into each day, and we all do so effortlessly. But why do we choose step into this world? Why choose to embrace the world behind the screen? Connection. Through text messages, video messages, social media, emails, phone calls, games, movies, shows, news articles, research, the list goes on—our sole goal, whether realized or not, is connection.

Many are worried about those who live larger lives behind the screen than those who live their lives through movement. It’s okay to be worried. Balance, while necessary, will always be a struggle to those susceptible to human nature—so, undeniably, balance is a struggle for all.

But when I close my eyes and think about the world today, how connected we all truly are, I can’t help but think it is absolutely beautiful. Never, in the history of mankind, have we been able to physically move through our lives while also being dialed in to the collective consciousness of our society today via the world behind the screen.

We are all more alive for it.

I work from home. I am physically alone in my home, but do not feel lonely. I choose to embrace both my physical world: connecting with my children and husband through movement on a daily basis, and my world behind the screen: connecting with my friends, my colleagues through various means of communication.

It is beautiful. It is a beautiful world we live in now, because of the connection we are able to have with each other. Don’t ever forget that, we as humans, live for connection. And now we have more of it than any of us could ever ask for. Let’s do something magical with that. Every. Single. Day.

Love,

Gretchen Kelsey

  1. Yes! Thanks to texting and video, I feel physically close to family members and friends who live far away. We see and hear each other and stay close thanks to the power of the screen.

  2. I love this Gretchen! I know that I wouldn’t be as connected (or feel as close) to my extended family if it weren’t for the variety of non-physical ways available. I’m going to take your advice and do something magical with it every day :).
